KAZAKHSTAN: BP plans to use BTC pipeline to export Tengiz crude oil
Thursday, 20 November 2008

(EnergyAsia, November 20, Thursday) --- UK major BP plans to export crude oil from Kazakhstan through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline to the port of Ceyhan in Turkey.

The oil, from Kazakhstan’s Tengiz oil field, will be brought via ship over the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan where it will be loaded up through the 1,770-kilometre pipeline. The company has declined to state how much oil it plans to deliver through the pipeline.

The Kazak oil will likely replace some of the volumes lost following the recent shutdown of two oil platforms in a key Azeri field in the Caspian Sea, analysts said.

Kazakhstan holds the world’s eighth largest oil reserves. Last year it produced some 1.45 million b/d of oil, most of it for the export markets.
